The third recording is the first session on the topic of Conflict Transformation and Connecting.

Notice how potential conflict is nipped in the bud with a method that I teach everyone to use in subsequent sessions. Also notice how participants witness a live process and recognize their learning on their own at the end. This illustrates the group dynamic of discovery learning. Adults learn best from experiencing an event, in this case a role play, and then reflecting on their learning.

The fourth recording is the next session on Conflict Transformation of this same Tele-Workshop group. This time the format is a discussion followed by one person presenting a problem they have at work. Bill Murray and group members coach the person to understand their problem better using a special method.

Again participants learn from observing a real life problem. The person will address the problem the next day by speaking with a direct report. The person will then report back to us next week about her results and get feedback on how she did. In this Tele-Workshop series, we learn by doing and getting feedback. Our format of spacing out the learning in small chunks weekly allows us this excellent learning approach.

We invite you to participate in a series of Tele-Workshops that will help you be more powerful and loving – Emotional Intelligence for Resilient Leaders and Professsionals. As a leader or professional at work, you will be more skilled at handling difficult situations and conversations. At home, you will understand and relate to your family and friends better. Public Tele-Workshops: New people may join at any time. The Tele-Workshops are easy to fit into your schedule, since each individual session is short, an hour and 20 minutes, and the Program is offered about 3 times a month. You can participate from the comfort of your office by dialing up the phone number that will be provided when you register. (Regular long-distance phone charges will apply.) You will be surprised at how much you learn in this format because you can practice the skills you have learned in between sessions. Your learning will be resilient.

Come to as many sessions as you can, and invite co-workers, family, and friends from any location to join you, at any time on our conference calls. Biography of William R. Murray
“I am a Harvard M.B.A., Yale M.Div. (Master of Divinity), Master Certified Coach, and graduate of Corporate Coach U. I started as a line manager with bottom-line responsibility. Then in l976, I began training and coaching managers in leadership and communication skills in JC Penney’s corporate headquarters. I helped them open the largest leadership development center in New York City. Since then I have trained and coached business owners, executives, and leaders in companies ranging from Fortune 500 corporations like IBM, to family businesses. In 1993 I founded Eagle Alliance Executive Coaching.”

Alcoholics Anonymous Questionnaire

We decided to try and face up to what alcohol had done to us. Here are some of the questions we tried to answer honestly. If we answered YES to four or more questions, we were in deep trouble with our drinking. See how you do. Remember, there is no disgrace in facing up to the fact that you have a problem.

1. Have you ever decided to stop drinking for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days? Most of us in A.A. made all kinds of promises to ourselves and to our families. We could not keep them. Then we came to A.A. A.A. said: “Just try not to drink today.” (If you do not drink today, you cannot get drunk today.)

2. Do you wish people would mind their own business about your drinking– stop telling you what to do? In A.A. we do not tell anyone to do anything. We just talk about our own drinking, the trouble we got into, and how we stopped. We will be glad to help you, if you want us to.

Biographies

Bill and Kathy Murray are both uniquely qualified as ordained ministers with a long track record of business and coaching experience. Bill Murray earned an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. His academic background and work experience uniquely qualify him for coaching leaders and professionals to build a spiritual foundation for their work life.

Bill is an Executive Coach who has been awarded the Master Certified Coach credential. Bill has fulfilled leadership responsibilities in major corporations, hospitals, and universities. He has coached and trained hundreds of leaders and professionals in interpersonal skills. For over 30 years he has felt called to minister to people in the workplace to help them improve the quality of their work lives and spirituality. His passion is coaching, and his mission is to serve in the deepest sense of the word.

Kathy Murray is an ordained interfaith minister and a licensed psychotherapist. She received a Minister of Spiritual Counseling degree from the New Seminary in New York City and an M.S.W. from New York University. She has extensive experience in the business world, having worked for several major companies, working her way up to be Marketing Manager for a high-tech market research company. Her success at being a spiritual coach to her coworkers motivated her to become a professional counselor. She currently is a counselor at the Duke University Medical Center and a coach at Eagle Alliance Executive Coaching.

Our Facilitators:

Bill Murray is a graduate of Yale Divinity School (M.Div.’69) and The Harvard Business School (MBA ‘74). He has been called for over 30 years to be a chaplain to people in the world of work. He was a minister and then a leader in the corporate world at companies such as J.C. Penney. For over 30 years he has coached and trained leaders. He has much experience in team building and conflict resolution.

Bill was trained by the Alban Institute for one week on how to resolve church conflicts. He was also trained and certified as a state mediator. Bill was trained in leadership and group facilitation at several corporate training centers such as the National Training Labs.

His wife, Kathy Murray, is a graduate of NYU with a MSW and The New Seminary (MSC ‘92). She is a licensed psychotherapist who has been trained in group dynamics at Duke University, where she runs several groups each week.

Career Transition Coaching Program

Bill Murray has an unusual combination of extensive work experience in a variety of corporations plus thorough graduate-level education and training from Yale, Harvard, and CUNY in career transition coaching and organizational psychology. This makes him uniquely able to coach clients to discover a good work environment for themselves. Then he helps them develop new people skills for new roles such as management or leadership. Clients experience supportive, professional career coaching. They grow in self-awareness and self esteem and increase their self-management and job search skills. Steps

Clients take these steps as needed:

1. Clarify their goals, values, and sense of purpose. Identify interests for their careers and lifestyles. Assess their skills and work styles. Clients may take a variety of approaches to assessment, including:

  • Using a variety of assessment tools such as the Myers-Briggs, Strong, values and occupational card sorts, success stories, or other exercises
  • Analyzing their experience in work and leisure activities
  • Examining their attitudes and behavior patterns to see what works and what blocks them from achieving their goals.

2. Explore careers:

  • Research career literature
  • Network to increase contacts
  • Informational interviews with people in career fields.

3. Decide which careers fit them best:

  • Evaluate fit of tasks and organizational culture in desired work environments
  • Create a vision of their ideal career and lifestyle
  • Develop sense of direction and set goals to achieve the vision.

4. Search for jobs or projects:

  • Manage their time and job search campaign
  • Network and research to find potential employers
  • Sell themselves on paper and face-to-face
  • Write resumes and letters that open doors
  • Interview convincingly
  • Negotiate job offers.

5. Begin new jobs and use new self-awareness of professional strengths and work style to get off to a good start, building good work relationships.

6. Analyze their experience to determine how well the job or project fits them. Plan for any future adjustments, as needed.

7. Learn new roles and people skills for transitions into management or leadership positions. See Executive Coaching.

8. Optional – Utilize spiritual resources fully. Make the most of their spiritual path as a resource for the above steps and to improve their quality of work life. Fees for Individual Self-Paying Clients

Invest in yourself

Corporations pay a set fee for our Executive Coaching Programs for a 6 to12 month project.

The following Executive Coaching fee investment possibilities are for self-paying individuals. You may select a Monthly Investment Package to fit your budget and time constraints:

  • $400 per month for 2 sessions of 60 minutes each
  • $500 per month for 3 sessions of 50 minutes each
  • $600 per month for 3 sessions of 60 minutes each
  • $700 per month for 4 sessions of 52 minutes each
  • $800 per month for 4 sessions of 60 minutes each
  • $1000 per month for 4 sessions of 75 minutes each

In addition to the Monthly Investment Package times, more time may be purchased for intensive work. You pay one month in advance.

We ask you to commit to 6-12 months of Executive Coaching so that you have a realistic opportunity to achieve your goals.

Assessment work is charged separately on a set fee basis that includes royalties we pay for instruments, administrative work, and all time spent studying and explaining results:

  • DISC including Success Insights Report - $600
  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator - $1,000
  • 360 Feedback and other assessments charged on a project basis.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice, you will be responsible for payment of the scheduled session.

Please understand that your scheduled time is what you get. If you are late, you lose that time.

If you cancel your entire Executive Coaching program in the middle of the month, you may have a refund, less a $200 cancellation fee.

Bartering

Clergy and non-profit leaders can reduce their fees through bartering promotional activities such as:

  1. Send an email to contacts. We can help you write the email to save you time.
  2. Phone selected contacts.
  3. Arrange for our TeleWorkshops or a presentation to be held at your place of work, professional association, or church.
  4. Put a paragraph in a newsletter. We can help you write something customized to your organization’s newsletter to save you time.
  5. Submit an article to a professional journal. Again, we can write it.
  6. Your ideas?

Since our coaching is effective by telephone, you may contact people throughout the country and abroad. In addition, we do take our workshops and our Performance Enhancement for Pairs Program on the road.

If you would like a lower fee in exchange for your assistance, please consider the possibility of bartering. It will be easier than you think.

Conflict Resolution Coaching

Bill has a long history of facilitating conflict resolution. In one job in a hospital, he resolved conflict among all staff from VP’s to dish washers. The 140 managers came to Bill to straighten out problem behaviors of their employees. The employees came to Bill to complain about the managers. Since founding his own consulting firm in 1993, Bill has assisted individuals and organizations to resolve and manage conflicts. How We Coach

People ask us, “How do you work?”

We provide an objective sounding board to help leaders think things through. Many leaders say, “It’s lonely at the top.” We provide a safe place to say anything, explore new ideas, and make good decisions.

Before we see a client, or get on the phone with them, we pause to meditate and get centered. We offer this centered state, a relaxed atmosphere where clients can do their best thinking. We seek to be fully attentive and able to be in their shoes, to see things their way.

Our goal at Eagle Alliance is not to give a person a fish, but rather to teach him or her how to fish so that the benefit lasts beyond our working together. Many clients want the fish. They want to be told exactly what to do in a given situation. Sometimes we do tell them. We value our point of view and wisdom. But sometimes telling them will minimize their professional growth. So instead, we give them an opportunity to figure it out for themselves with our help. We strive to craft excellent questions that open clients up to new viewpoints and possibilities.

Eventually, our clients come to appreciate these questions because they see themselves growing professionally. They realize they are learning how to fish and will be more self-confident for a lifetime.

When clients tell us about their problems, we teach them how to fish by taking apart the problem story and seeing more clearly what their obstacles are. Then we brainstorm ways to minimize the problem story and create alternative new stories. The client picks an alternative new story and together we discover new possibilities for making the new success story grow in their life.

Clients tell us that our approach is energizing and motivating, as they discover new ways to break through old problems. They notice that their self-esteem and self confidence blossoms as they strengthen the new success stories for themselves.

This process is powerful but almost imperceptible at the time. You won’t see dazzling techniques, just good, solid results. So we urge you to give it time, at least 6 months, and then see how much better your results are.

Executives and managers usually buy into our coaching process quickly because they feel energized. They see their strengths in a new light that allows them to break out of unwanted behavior patterns that limit them. Their self-confidence, hope, and motivation rise so that they press on to add new, more successful behaviors to their repertoire.

Executive Coaching Process

1) Assessment and Feedback

As a first step, we provide an extensive assessment of client needs and possibilities. Most people think that assessment just means identifying problems. But we focus more on strengths and how to build on them. Our Executive Coaching is solution- focused, not problem-focused. Focusing on the positive, our assessment process not only improves self-awareness, but goes on to boost motivation to change. It encourages hope in new possibilities.

We will jointly tailor our Assessment Program to fit your needs. At a minimum we recommend the Myers-Briggs, DISC, and a 360 feedback program. These three things will give an executive an awareness of personality traits and behavioral styles, as well as feedback on how others perceive them. We will help each client identify his or her unique qualities and strengths; and we will coach them to build on these.
