Here are some audio recordings to let you experience what a Group Coaching Tele-Workshop session might be like.
The following audio recordings are from My Tele-Workshop series, Emotional Intelligence for Resilient Leaders and Professionals.
The first recording, GSK- Introduction and Module 2 selection on Communication, has a brief Introduction to the whole series, two testimonials, and a communication exercise selected from Module 2. The exercise is on how to speak in a manner others can hear. This Tele-Workshop gives participants many chances to practice doing this and get feedback.

The third recording is the first session on the topic of Conflict Transformation and Connecting.
Notice how potential conflict is nipped in the bud with a method that I teach everyone to use in subsequent sessions. Also notice how participants witness a live process and recognize their learning on their own at the end. This illustrates the group dynamic of discovery learning. Adults learn best from experiencing an event, in this case a role play, and then reflecting on their learning.

The fourth recording is the next session on Conflict Transformation of this same Tele-Workshop group. This time the format is a discussion followed by one person presenting a problem they have at work. Bill Murray and group members coach the person to understand their problem better using a special method.
Again participants learn from observing a real life problem. The person will address the problem the next day by speaking with a direct report. The person will then report back to us next week about her results and get feedback on how she did. In this Tele-Workshop series, we learn by doing and getting feedback. Our format of spacing out the learning in small chunks weekly allows us this excellent learning approach.

“What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.” –Martin Luther King, Jr.
We invite you to participate in a series of Tele-Workshops that will help you be more powerful and loving – Emotional Intelligence for Resilient Leaders and Professsionals. As a leader or professional at work, you will be more skilled at handling difficult situations and conversations. At home, you will understand and relate to your family and friends better. You will lead all aspects of your own life more powerfully, lovingly, and resiliently.
The group coaching approach of this Tele-Workshop gives you some of the benefits and Results of our individual Executive Coaching Program at a fraction of the cost. Also it gives you a place to practice new skills in an emotionally safe setting.
If you are a leader of an organization, or know of one, please let us know. We shall form a special small group section of leaders whenever we have 6-8 leaders interested. This group will cover the same topics as below but with an emphasis on leadership applications. Nancy Maeder of Durham NC, said, “I have been a participant for a day-long training program at Duke University on coaching skills by Bill Murray. This program may be offered as an in-house workshop tailored to fit your company’s needs. Or individuals may attend our ongoing public Tele-Workshops open to all professionals. In either case, we shall explore the key emotional intelligence topics below.
Public Tele-Workshops: New people may join at any time. The Tele-Workshops are easy to fit into your schedule, since each individual session is short, an hour and 20 minutes, and the Program is offered about 3 times a month. We decided to try and face up to what alcohol had done to us. Here are some of the questions we tried to answer honestly. If we answered YES to four or more questions, we were in deep trouble with our drinking. See how you do. Remember, there is no disgrace in facing up to the fact that you have a problem.
Answer YES or NO to the following questions.
1. Have you ever decided to stop drinking for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days? Most of us in A.A. made all kinds of promises to ourselves and to our families. We could not keep them. Then we came to A.A. A.A. said: “Just try not to drink today.” (If you do not drink today, you cannot get drunk today.)
Yes
No
2. Do you wish people would mind their own business about your drinking– stop telling you what to do? In A.A. we do not tell anyone to do anything. We just talk about our own drinking, the trouble we got into, and how we stopped. We will be glad to help you, if you want us to.
Yes
No
3. Have you ever switched from one kind of drink to another in the hope that this would keep you from getting drunk? We tried all kinds of ways. We made our drinks weak. Or just drank beer. Or we did not drink cocktails. Or only drank on weekends. You name it, we tried it. But if we drank anything with alcohol in it, we usually got drunk eventually.
Yes
No
4. Have you had to have an eye-opener upon awakening during the past year? Do you need a drink to get started, or to stop shaking? This is a pretty sure sign that you are not drinking “socially.”
Yes
No
5. Do you envy people who can drink without getting into trouble?
At one time or another, most of us have wondered why we were not like most people, who really can take it or leave it.
Yes
No
1. Regularly work more than 5 days per week!
2. Frequently work more than 8 hours per day!
3. Normally work through lunch!
4. Spend vacation time working on business issues!
5. Said at least five times that you/they need to “get a life!
6. Cancelled a vacation because you had too much work to do!
7. Completing a project, or making one more phone call, typically a higher priority than getting home for dinner on time!
8. Is normally there to say goodbye to the last person in the office and/or cleaning crew!
9. The route to and from work looks more familiar in the dark than in daylight!
10. Frequently still working on projects/the internet when the late news comes on?
11. When dining alone, compelled to have something else to do, like reading or working?
12. When watching TV, must be involved in another simultaneous activity?
Within the context of the world of work, we are able to coach you to grow personally and spiritually as well as professionally. You may enhance your spirituality as a resource for work.
Spiritual Coaching can assist you to:
Our methods and approaches include:
Bill and Kathy Murray are both uniquely qualified as ordained ministers with a long track record of business and coaching experience. Bill Murray earned an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. His academic background and work experience uniquely qualify him for coaching leaders and professionals to build a spiritual foundation for their work life.
Bill is an Executive Coach who has been awarded the Master Certified Coach credential. Bill has fulfilled leadership responsibilities in major corporations, hospitals, and universities. He has coached and trained hundreds of leaders and professionals in interpersonal skills. For over 30 years he has felt called to minister to people in the workplace to help them improve the quality of their work lives and spirituality. His passion is coaching, and his mission is to serve in the deepest sense of the word.
Kathy Murray is an ordained interfaith minister and a licensed psychotherapist. She received a Minister of Spiritual Counseling degree from the New Seminary in New York City and an M.S.W. from New York University. She has extensive experience in the business world, having worked for several major companies, working her way up to be Marketing Manager for a high-tech market research company. Her success at being a spiritual coach to her coworkers motivated her to become a professional counselor. She currently is a counselor at the Duke University Medical Center and a coach at Eagle Alliance Executive Coaching.
Note in this circle, that each sector touches both of the others. No matter which piece you choose to focus on, you will also improve the other two. So, start our coaching wherever you choose, and change that emphasis whenever you wish. As a leader or as a professional, develop your soul and spirit by:
GOD — Spiritual Growth
SELF — Personal and Professional Growth
Personal Growth:
Professional Growth:
OTHERS — Growing in Relationships
Wouldn’t you like to move up to your next level of personal effectiveness, spiritual fulfillment, and intimacy? Please contact William Murray.
Our Church Leadership Coaching Program is designed specifically for denominational executives, clergy and church governing groups such as administrative councils, vestries, sessions, and deacon boards.
The first part of our company name, Eagle Alliance, is taken from Isaiah 40:31, “Those who wait for the Lord, will gain new strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles….” Let your leadership team soar.
We provide coaching and training that help denominational executives, clergy, and lay leaders to improve their leadership and communication skills. Often clergy lack any substantial training in leadership.
Lay leaders appreciate our programs because what they learn will be useful not only at church but on their jobs as well. Leadership will be more effective and people will grow spiritually and personally in the process.
Think you can’t afford this? We offer a relatively inexpensive Group Coaching Program in the form of Tele-Workshops conducted through telephone conference calls. Our extensive Participant Workbook guides you with a visual aid to focus on. Anyone may join our ongoing public section at any time. It meets once a week for one hour and 20 minutes. Spacing out your learning makes it stick as you get time to practice new skills between sessions.

Please do check out our free Tips on Emotional Intelligence for Resilience. Our Tips give intriguing, new perspectives on resilience, leadership, and relationship management at: http://www.EmotionallyIntelligentLeadership.com/
Our programs will also strengthen your denominational or church leadership group’s spiritual life and teamwork. We offer a structured Executive Team Coaching Program to boost the performance and synergy of the top leadership group of a denomination or a very large church. We custom build our program to suit your situation and budget. Our structured program can significantly improve the personal, interpersonal, and group effectiveness of your denomination’s executive team or the leadership group of a large church.
Our programs assist church leaders to follow more closely the model that Jesus gave us of Servant Leadership. This gives lay leaders a safe place to practice new servant-leader approaches before they decide to use them at work on their job. Many lay leaders are also leaders in the secular world, and they readily appreciate the value of our training. Our programs are a way to reward your lay leaders, many of whom are also your big contributors.
When resentment has built up in church groups, we facilitate conflict resolution. Often it is wise to have an outside facilitator because denominational representatives wield power, which distorts their role. An outsider has a better chance of remaining neutral and objective, which is crucial to mediating a satisfactory solution to the conflict.
We can lead retreats. Your leaders will appreciate having skilled facilitators to move along your agenda and accomplish your desired results. Also, your leaders can participate more fully since they do not have to fulfill the leadership role. We will customize our program to fit your audience and goals.
We emphasize the need to recognize and celebrate where God is working in your denominational office or church. We believe that leadership meetings and retreats should provide time to listen to the Holy Spirit and should be conducted in a spiritual fashion. The “how” we lead in church groups may be more important to God than the “what” we accomplish.
Bill Murray is a graduate of Yale Divinity School (M.Div.’69) and The Harvard Business School (MBA ‘74). He has been called for over 30 years to be a chaplain to people in the world of work. He was a minister and then a leader in the corporate world at companies such as J.C. Penney. For over 30 years he has coached and trained leaders. He has much experience in team building and conflict resolution.
Bill was trained by the Alban Institute for one week on how to resolve church conflicts. He was also trained and certified as a state mediator. Bill was trained in leadership and group facilitation at several corporate training centers such as the National Training Labs.
His wife, Kathy Murray, is a graduate of NYU with a MSW and The New Seminary (MSC ‘92). She is a licensed psychotherapist who has been trained in group dynamics at Duke University, where she runs several groups each week.
Kathy and Bill Murray specialize in coaching executive couples, improving their relationship as above, with emphasis on greater balance, stability, energy, and love. They both have many years of business experience and understand the pressures that leaders are under at work and how that affects their intimate relationships.
Why do we offer relationship coaching as an option for executives? Because relationship coaching provides a tremendous opportunity to learn dialogue and listening skills in a safe environment with your spouse or significant other and can help you to apply these skills at work. Improving these interpersonal skills both at home and at work can give a huge boost to your work effectiveness and career.
Another reason we offer relationship coaching is that we have seen too many executives burn out at home and then become low-performing on the job too. Their spouses keep saying that they are fed up, but the executives don’t know what to do about it. The executive feels trapped by work pressures; the spouse, by an inattentive mate. The spouse eventually may opt out. The executive is often taken by surprise by the divorce request and drops into a funk. Low performance on the job eventually results.
We can help you avoid this scenario. Preventive maintenance is the key. Nip the problem in the bud, before it is too late. By the time a couple is ready for marriage therapy, it is usually too late. Coaching early on is a good answer. Through our Executive Relationship Coaching Program, you can improve your communication and people skills to perk up or salvage your relationship. In addition, we assist you in creating more balance in your life, which actually leads to more creative energy for work.
We also assist couples who work together to improve their work effectiveness as well as their marriage or committed relationship.
Who are your coaches? We walk our talk, and know from our own experience that the solution-focused ways we coach you to change are powerful. We are highly trained in doing couples coaching, and provide a uniquely powerful partnership for you. For more information about us, please see our biographies.
Bill Murray has an unusual combination of extensive work experience in a variety of corporations plus thorough graduate-level education and training from Yale, Harvard, and CUNY in career transition coaching and organizational psychology. He has been doing this for over 20 years. Bill’s biography is available at About Us.

We may need to facilitate Conflict Resolution for people who clearly have much resentment toward each other. We assess the amount of resentment that has built up and tailor our approach accordingly.
Results of our Conflict Resolution Coaching are:
Bill Murray has frequently facilitated meetings between antagonists and watched them soften up with his assistance until they finally reached some agreements. He encourages good listening and creative problem solving to reach win/win solutions. Follow-up meetings and telephone coaching help ensure compliance.
Bill has a long history of facilitating conflict resolution. In one job in a hospital, he resolved conflict among all staff from VP’s to dish washers. The 140 managers came to Bill to straighten out problem behaviors of their employees. The employees came to Bill to complain about the managers. Bill brought them both together to solve the problems in creative, win/win approaches.
Since founding his own consulting firm in 1993, Bill has assisted individuals and organizations to resolve and manage conflicts. People change from being angry and uncooperative to being ready to get on with working together in productive ways. And he trains companies how to nip future conflicts in the bud too. Clients appreciate Bill’s trustworthiness and ethical values as a graduate of Yale Divinity School.
Bill has been trained and approved by NY and NC states as a mediator. Bill has also been trained by the Alban Institute in a one-week-long workshop on resolving conflicts. Finally, his facilitation skills have been highly developed by months of training over several years from NTL (National Training Labs) and other corporate training organizations. For more information on Bill, see About Us.

People ask us, “How do you work?”
We provide an objective sounding board to help leaders think things through. Many leaders say, “It’s lonely at the top.” We provide a safe place to say anything, explore new ideas, and make good decisions.
Before we see a client, or get on the phone with them, we pause to meditate and get centered. We offer this centered state, a relaxed atmosphere where clients can do their best thinking. We seek to be fully attentive and able to be in their shoes, to see things their way.
Our goal at Eagle Alliance is not to give a person a fish, but rather to teach him or her how to fish so that the benefit lasts beyond our working together. Many clients want the fish. They want to be told exactly what to do in a given situation. Sometimes we do tell them. We value our point of view and wisdom. But sometimes telling them will minimize their professional growth. So instead, we give them an opportunity to figure it out for themselves with our help. We strive to craft excellent questions that open clients up to new viewpoints and possibilities.
Eventually, our clients come to appreciate these questions because they see themselves growing professionally. They realize they are learning how to fish and will be more self-confident for a lifetime.
When clients tell us about their problems, we teach them how to fish by taking apart the problem story and seeing more clearly what their obstacles are. Then we brainstorm ways to minimize the problem story and create alternative new stories. The client picks an alternative new story and together we discover new possibilities for making the new success story grow in their life.
Clients tell us that our approach is energizing and motivating, as they discover new ways to break through old problems. They notice that their self-esteem and self confidence blossoms as they strengthen the new success stories for themselves.
This process is powerful but almost imperceptible at the time. You won’t see dazzling techniques, just good, solid results. So we urge you to give it time, at least 6 months, and then see how much better your results are.
Executives and managers usually buy into our coaching process quickly because they feel energized. They see their strengths in a new light that allows them to break out of unwanted behavior patterns that limit them. Their self-confidence, hope, and motivation rise so that they press on to add new, more successful behaviors to their repertoire.
For more on the results you might expect, see Results.
For more on how we coach, see Testimonials. In the client stories in Testimonials, you can taste the flavor of how we work. We stay solution-focused, emphasizing the positive, and build on success. We deconstruct problem-laden stories, and we construct new stories of competence, possibility, and hope. Clients live into these new stories, building a new self-identity.

We are skilled at aligning with individuals in a way that builds trust and motivation for change. Our Executive Coaching Program gives executives the support and tools they need to break out of old patterns and break into successful behavior.
As a first step, we provide an extensive assessment of client needs and possibilities. Most people think that assessment just means identifying problems. But we focus more on strengths and how to build on them. Our Executive Coaching is solution- focused, not problem-focused. Focusing on the positive, our assessment process not only improves self-awareness, but goes on to boost motivation to change. It encourages hope in new possibilities.
We will jointly tailor our Assessment Program to fit your needs. At a minimum we recommend the Myers-Briggs, DISC, and a 360 feedback program. These three things will give an executive an awareness of personality traits and behavioral styles, as well as feedback on how others perceive them. We will help each client identify his or her unique qualities and strengths; and we will coach them to build on these.
