Harvard Business School Endorses Emotional Intelligence

I noticed that my alma mater, the Harvard Business School, started publishing articles and books in 2001 on emotional intelligence in leadership. I recommend to you my favorite of HBS Press, Primal Leadership: Realizing the Power of Emotional Intelligence, by Daniel Goleman, et. al.

A shorter, good publication from HBS Press is: “Best of HBR on Leadership: Emotionally Intelligent Leadership” - A Harvard Business Review Collection of 3 articles by Daniel Goleman. These articles are incorported into the content of the above book so you get all you need from the book.

To order, call HBS Press at 800-988-0886.

This book and the articles describe dozens of ways that emotional intelligence is crucial for top performance of leaders and for business results. Many examples are given, such as how emotional intelligence can create an organizational culture that attracts and retains good leaders. If you are concerned with retention, read this book.

Would you like to send this page to a colleague who might like to read these resources?

Please feel free to call me at 919-419-9460 to discuss this book or an article. I would enjoy doing that.

In future Blog posts I shall give you many insights from this book.

Harvard obviously sees the value of emotional intelligence for leaders. So do I. I got wise way back in 1972 during my MBA studies at HBS. Professors repeatedly asserted that interpersonal skills are what make the executive, not technical skills. Now we realize that leaders also need other emotional intelligence competencies to be successful, such as self-awareness and empathy. These allow them to manage their own emotions and others’ effectively to create productive organizational cultures.

I designed a Group Executive Coaching Program composed of a series of Tele-Workshops to help you to improve in crucial emotional intelligence competencies. This Tele-Workshop series presents complex concepts in easy-to-learn, bite-sized chunks with lots of time for practice during and in between conference call sessions. Plus you get the support of other leaders and of my Executive Coaching while you learn.

Please check out this Group Executive Coaching Program by experiencing a Complimentary Session. If you have not done so already, please go here to sign up: http://www.EmotionallyIntelligentLeadership.com/index.htm#bottom
